ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has voiced strong protest against US drone strike in Pakistan saying such attacks were breach of country’s sovereignty and US drone attack not only dealt a serious blow to efforts for peace in the region but also it left negative impact on Pakistan-US ties.
Expressing its concern over growing strategic relations between India and US and India’s inclusion in Nuclear Supplier Group (NSG) said that US should take care of Pakistan security. Inclusion of India in NSG would destabilise the region. US should pursue non-discriminatory approach, If it supports India for having seat in NSG then it should support Pakistan too.
US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Olson and Senior Adviser and Director for South Asian Affairs at the National Security Council Dr Peter Lavoy called on PM’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry in Islamabad on Friday.
Both the delegations held candid discussions on bilateral relations. Pakistani delegation took up matter of Indian interference in Pakistan during meeting with US delegation. Besides showing Indian spy agency agent Kulbhushan Yadav confessional statement to US delegation Pakistan also presented evidence about Indian military and financial assistance to terrorists in FATA and Karachi and Balochistan.
Sartaj Aziz expressed strong protest against US drone strike in Balochistan saying drone attack was not only a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and breach of the principles of the United Nation’s Charter, but has also vitiated bilateral ties.
Drone attack has delivered a serious setback to Afghan peace process. Some incident is made to take place whenever talks move forward on Afghan reconciliation process, he added. He said that Pakistan is seriously concerned over growing strategic relations between US and India. Pakistan has always sided with US in war on terror.
Pakistan has strong reservations over US support to India for membership of NSG. If only India is made member of NSG then it will give rise to destabilisation. US should also support Pakistan membership for NSG.
US special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan said the impression for preferring India to Pakistan is not correct. Pakistan is key ally to US in the region. US recognise sacrifices rendered by Pakistan in war against terrorism and want to promote friendly relations with Pakistan.
He said that Taliban were not ready to forsake path to violence. US drone strike on Mullah Mansour was reaction to Taliban attack on US forces in Kabul. Both the sides agreed on cooperating with each other for sake of regional peace and security and continuing talks process between US and Pakistan.
